Winter!

We took a trip up to the mountain to play in the snow. Bryson had a great time sledding and having snowball fights. Kyle seemed most interested in eating the snow and making snow cake for me to eat. Kyle was a little afraid of sledding and disliked wearing mittens or a hat. Luckily it was quite warm and we were all overdressed. We stayed overnight in a hotel and went swimming in the hot tub the next day (the pool was much too cold). Bryson is getting much braver in the water and will occasionally put his whole head under! Kyle is still afraid to put his head in.

The most amazing part of the trip was that we were able to eat in restaurants twice (for the entire meal!). We were pretty worried when we walked into the restaurant for dinner, there were candles on the table, cloth napkins and it was very quiet. We were so tired we didn't want to go elsewhere and decided to give it a try. Both boys were great for the entire meal! I think it was the first time Ken and I were able to finish our meal and drink at ease. Right about the time Ken asked for the check, the kids resumed their usual crazy antics, but we were able to head out to the car in time. Breakfast in the morning went great as well, the best part of the trip!

I ran in my first 15K (9 mile) race in March, the Shamrock run. The middle three miles were all up hill! The weather was rainy but not as cold as I was expecting. I had a great time, I survived the hills and was able to pick up the pace on the downhill to the finish line. I did it in 1hr 36 min (10+ minute mile)! I feel pretty optimistic about the half-marathon in May. The running is actually easier than I thought it would be, but I would never want to do more than 13 miles!

Happy New Year!

After Christmas we took a trip to San Diego with Mara and John. We had a late flight and unfortunately the kids didn't sleep, they were way too excited. We spent much of our time on the beach. The kids got to run around and play in the sand to their hearts content. Despite the water temp of about 50 deg Bryson loved to play in the ocean. Kyle on the other hand was afraid and wouldn't go near the water. We spent alot of time at Balboa park as well, there was a children's museum and a model train museum there. We couldn't get Kyle to leave the train museum. We decided it was too expensive to go to the zoo or sea world (60-70$ a person) and the kids seemed happiest at the beach. We were even able to eat at restaurants with the kids for the most part. The trips seem to be getting easier with the boys, we had more difficulty last summer when we took a trip with them than we did this trip.

Bryson is doing great, he loves going to school on the bus, he has even gotten much better at getting up and ready for the bus in the morning (usually that is one of his worst times). He is playing better with Kyle for the most part and is doing wonderful with his pretend play. He still has difficulty holding a pencil, but seems to have more patience with coloring. We had some snow a couple weeks ago and he loved playing in it. Kyle got cold right away, but I couldn't get Brsyon to come in.

Kyle is starting to work on potty training, he has moved up to the next class at daycare and they have them go on the potty every hour. He will go almost every time he tries, but rarely tells you when he has to go. He is very independent and wants things done his way, he can be pretty sassy at times and is very stubborn. He loves our cat and found her sleeping in his bed, now he always wants her in his bed when he naps. Unfortunately the cat is not very cooperative. He is very affectionate and loves to snuggle.

I signed up for a half-marathon in May, so I am starting my training for it. Things are going well so far, the longest I've run is 6 miles. I will be running in the Shamrock run in March for a 15k (9 miles). I am doing yoga on wed. eve and love it. Ken and I are planning on getting a babysitter once a week so we can have a date night. We have also started going to church. I posted new movies on out drop shots sight....

Christmas!

The boys sat on Santa's lap again this year despite having to wait almost 2 hours. Luckily, our friends the Blickenstaff's were there too, not sure if we will do it again next year! (out dentist office has free pictures with Santa). The boys opened stocking for St. Nick despite the fact no one else in this area celebrates it (apparently it's only a WI tradition-I think we will keep it up though). Ken and I made the boys gifts this year-sock monkey and elephant. It was much harder than I thought it would be, the one Ken made is already falling apart. It was actually pretty fun though. I also made them "monster" hot packs to calm them for bed time. Bryson and I made Christmas cookies and the three of us went
Christmas caroling in our neighborhood giving them away. I think our neighbors really enjoyed it, everyone invited us in for visits (or Bryson just barged in...). I think Kyle thought we were trick-or-treating again and was expecting candy. Mara and John came for Christmas this year. They had alot of fun playing hide and seek. We were trying to teach Bryson "hot and cold" to find someone and he was having so much fun! Bryson was very excited to get a school bus for Christmas, it's been one of his favorite toys since he was 2 yrs old.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Bryson is loving his new special education class. He was even invited to a classmate's birthday party. It was nice to meet other parents with "special" kids. He loves taking the bus to school and stands waving good-bye until it is out of sight!

Mom, dad, Vincent and Jess came for Thanksgiving this year. The boys loved having the company, especially Vincent. The kids played great together. Everyone helped make something for the meal, even the kids (they made homemade ice cream for dessert). We had the first annual Zimmerman olympics with the following events: rings, trampoline, long jump, high jump and obstacle course. The results were as follows: third place-Kyle, second place-Bryson and first place-Vincent. Vincent did a great job trying to make the competition fair due to the age differences. Special thanks to all the judges: bonnie, jim and the coach, jess. Bryson still loves to play on the rings and has made significant improvements in his strength. We went to the kids club one day so the boys could play on the indoor playground. They especially enjoyed the ball guns and play area.
